Spectroscopic, Microscopic, Thermal and Structural Investigation on Eucrite-Type Meteorites
Project no. 32180 · Status: Kapanmış · 2024
Summary

In this study, eucrite-type meteorites belonging to the Howardite-Eucrite-Diogenite (HED) group were systematically investigated using a multi-analytical approach in order to determine their mineralogical, structural, and thermal properties and to draw inferences regarding their possible parent bodies. Within the scope of the project, the meteorite samples were comprehensively characterized through petrographic analysis, scanning electron microscopy- energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), micro-Raman and FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), pycnometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and finally thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The integrated evaluation of the obtained data revealed the major silicate phases, chemical compositions, and possible indications of high-pressure minerals present in the meteorites. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the formation and evolutionary processes of eucrite meteorites, while also providing new insights into their potential relationship with asteroid 4Vesta. It is anticipated that the outcomes of this project will be published in internationally indexed journals, serve as a foundation for future research projects, and enhance the visibility of meteoritics research conducted in our country. In this respect, the research carried out within this project contributes not only to scientific literature but also provides a strong foundation for interdisciplinary studies.
