THE DETERMINATION OF WATER QUALİTY OF BALABAN STREAM, ONE OF THE DRINKING WATER SOURCE OF IZMIR ACCORDING TO MACROZOOBENTHIC ORGANISMS
Project no. 20350 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
This study was carried out to determine to physical and biological features of the water quality of Balaban Stream (İzmir) between June 2018 and May 2019. For this aim, five sampling points were determined, physical parameters measured in the field and benthic macroinvertebrate were collected seasonally. BBI, BMWP original, BMWP spanish version, ASPT, FBI and Saprobi Indices and species diversity indices were applied by using the ASTERICS software programme for determining the water quality. As a result of the study, totally of 62 taxa were determined in total 4595 benthic macroinvertebrate. 11 of them belong to Ephemeroptera; 14 belong to Plecoptera; 14 belong to Trichoptera; 7 belong to Diptera; 1 belong to Odonata; 4 belong to Coleoptera; 1 belong to Hirudinea; 1 belong to Oligochaeta; 7 belong to Gastropoda and 2 belong to Crustacea. As a result of this study, the water quality of Balaban Stream was determined unpolluted in terms of BBI and ASPT indices, unpolluted/ slightly polluted in terms of SI and FBI, and slightly polluted in terms of BMWP original and BMWP Spanish version.
