A Study on Correlation Between Avian Diversity and Vegetation Cover in Urban Green Spaces: The Case of Bornova
Project no. 992 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this study correlation between avian diversity and vegetation cover in urban green spaces have been examined in the cases of four important green spaces in the Bornova district: Büyükpark, Aşık Veysel Recreation Area, Ege University Rectorship Garden, and Ege University Housing Campus. This study hypnotizes that plant species and the numbers of plants have a positive influence on avian diversity in urban green spaces. This hypostasis has been tested through the present study. The method of the study is composed of data acquisition and analysis-interpretation processes. Plant species and bird species have been gathered and recorded in the data acquisition phase. Bird observations have been made between 08.30-11.00 am every month for 12 months between October 2016 and October 2017. In data analysis-interpretation phase, a linear regression statistical model has been computed to examine the correlation between bird and plant diversity in the studied urban green areas. According to the results of this study, the initial hypostasis of this study has been confirmed. A positively significant correlation has been found between avian and plant diversity with a ratio of 47 % (R). In other words, the regression equation or model explains the influence of plant species and the number of plants over avian diversity with a ratio of 47 %.
