INVESTIGATION OF THE EMULSION PRODUCTION CONTAINING HORSE CHESTNUT (Aesculus sp.), OREGANO (Orıganum sp.) AND KERATIN
Project no. 1348 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
In the leather industry, wool appears as a waste material during the unhairing process. In this study, sheep wool which was produced as waste after hair removal was used to obtain keratin. Active ingredient of the keratin obtained from the experiments was determined by FTIR in Argefar laboratory. Stability studies were carried out by measuring the pH, density of keratin. 7 kinds of emulsions were prepared in the research. The emulsions prepared contain only the emulsion base in the control 0 group. 1% keratin, 1% oregano-1.5% horse chestnut, 1% horse chestnut -1% keratin, 2% oregano -2% horse chestnut -1% keratin, 2% oregano -1% keratin, 2% horse chestnut -1% keratin poured to the emulsions respectively. Organoleptic evaluation of emulsions, stability, pH and viscosity measurements were performed. The microbiological total aerobic mesophilic bacterial load of the emulsions and keratin prepared was examined by pour plate method and it was determined that they did not contain any aerobic mesophilic bacteria. As a result of stability studies, second emulsion (1% horse chestnut), third emulsion (2% oregano, 2% horse chestnut), forth emulsion (2% oregano), fifth emulsion (2% horse chestnut) unstable, phase separation was observed. The pH values of all emulsions were found to be compatible with the skin.
