Multifunctional NHC Complexes and Catalytic Properties
Project no. 22224 · Status: Kapanmış · 2020
Summary

This project is concerned with the synthesis of multifunctional NHC (N-Heterocyclic Carbene) complexes and the investigation of their catalytic activities. Salts with low vapor pressure and therefore low melting point are called ionic liquids. Ionic liquids do not form harmful vapors due to their low vapor pressure. In addition, they do not have explosive properties and have high thermal stability. Today, it has gained importance to develop alternative solvents to solvents with explosive, volatile and toxic properties used in chemical synthesis and dissolution processes. Ionic liquids are seen as engineerable solvents for which there is too much anion-cation alternative. Therefore, in this study, palladium and ruthenium complexes containing multifunctional NHC were synthesized and their activities in various catalytic reactions were investigated.

The project consists of three parts. In the first chapter, NHC compounds ligand properties, synthesis methods and literature information about transfer hydrogenation and suzuki cross-linking reactions are covered. In the second part, experimental studies are explained. The third chapter deals with the synthesis, characterization and catalytic studies of salt and its complexes. The reactions of the synthesized compounds were carried out as a result of the reaction of Ru and Pd metal salts starting from histamine dihydrochloride.

The catalytic activities of the synthesized Ru-NHC complex in the transfer hydrogenation reaction and the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-linking reaction of the Pd-NHC complex were investigated.
