Project no. 22978 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary
Introduction-Aim: The study aims to determine the gender attitudes of midwifery students and the affecting factors during the pandemic process. Material and Method: The research is descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of students (n=397) who were enrolled in the Midwifery Department of a state university in the 2020-2021 academic year. Permission of the participants, ethics committee, Ministry of Health and institution were taken. Data were collected online with Google Form between 01 May-30 June 2021. “Introductory Information Form” and “Gender Roles Attitude Scale” were used in the research. The data were analyzed with SPSS 25.0. The research was supported by the EU Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (TLP-2021-22978). Results: It's determined that students felt the effect of gender roles other than biological sex negatively in determining the responsibilities of family members in the social isolation process (32,5%), while students with a brother took more responsibility (68,0%). The median of the scale score is 179,0 (min:122,0, max:190,0). The female gender role and traditional gender role sub-dimension scores of those aged 21 and above, and the female gender role scores of those whose mother's education is high school or higher, are significantly higher (p<0,05). It was found that both the scale total score and the scale sub-dimension scores of those who had heard of the concept of gender before were significantly higher than those who had not heard of it (p<0,05). Conclusion: It has been determined that students at the university located in the west of the country have a high awareness of gender roles and that the concept of gender in midwifery education increases awareness. Keywords: Pandemic, gender, midwifery, midwife, student.
