CONVERSION HEMICELLULOSE MODEL COMPOUNDS INTO VALUABLE CHEMICALS IN THE PRESENCE OF HOMOGENEOUS CATALYSTS
Project no. 1196 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
Researches using renewable energy sources in the production of energy and chemicals are increasing every day. Biomasses are the resources with the greatest potential among renewable resources. Studies were carried out to produce valuable chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass within the scope of this project. For this purpose, experimental studies have been carried with hemicellulose, which is one of the main components of lignocellulosic biomass. And transformation of hemicellulose into 5-HMF and furfural, which are produced from fossil fuels and accepted as platform chemical and used in the synthesis of many products, have been investigated. Mannose and galactose from hexoses and arabinose and xylose from pentose of hemicellulose were selected as model compound. Decomposition of model compounds at 130, 140, 150 and 160 ° C reaction temperatures and 2.5, 5.0, 10, 15 and 20 minutes’ reaction times were investigated in a microwave reactor in the presence of deep eutectic solvents. The reaction products were analyzed at HPLC analyzer and conversion to 5-HMF and furfural was determined.
