FORMULATION STUDIES FOR THE TREATMENT OF ORAL PREMALIGIN LESIONS
Project no. 252 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Oral cancer is a type of cancer that usually occurs in the mouth, on the lips, behind the palate, tongue, larynx, tonsils or salivary glands, and is usually seen in people aged 40 and over. Diagnosis and treatment of the disease at an early stage is very important in terms of the patients' chances of survival and quality of life. In this sense, premalignant lesions are very important in terms of the possibility of transformation into cancer. Our aim is to prepare nanoparticles and in situ gel formulations for the treatment of oral premalignant lesions with dexamethasone chemopreventive agent and to evaluate these formulations in vitro. The variety of formulations is important in terms of expanding the range of preferences. A topical preparation can be applied to the buccal mucosa of the active ingredient within the selected Turkey's Pharmaceutical Market isn’t available also. Optimum formulations were determined by in vitro characterization studies. These formulations are thought to be formulations which can be used locally and effectively in the treatment of premalign lesions, reduce the daily dose and frequency of administration due to systemic use, and will be an alternative to conventional preparations that improve the quality of life of the patient. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the nanoparticles and in situ gel formulations of dexamethasone were promising formulations.
