Determination of Fruit Quality and Post-Harvest Resistance of Some New Temporary Nectarine Varieties
Project no. 31912 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2023
Summary

Nectarine is a fruit in demand in the domestic and foreign markets, and its production areas and quantity are gradually increasing in Turkey. This study aimed to determine some new late-season nectarine varieties' fruit quality and post-harvest strength. Late-season fruits of 'Orion', 'Extreme Globe', 'Extreme Candy', 'Big Top' and 'Caldesi 85' nectarine (Prunus persica var. nectarine, Maxim.) varieties were harvested at the optimum time in Çivril district of Denizli province. Some of these fruits will be reserved for post-patient measurements and analysis. At the same time, the other part is stored at 0°C and 90-95% relative humidity for 45 days after being placed in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP). Quality changes were observed after the samples were taken out of the warehouse at the beginning of storage and 15-day intervals and kept for 3 days at the shelf life. In addition to the harvest and storage periods of nectarine fruits, after shelf life, physical (weight, width, length, height, weight loss, skin, and flesh color, fruit flesh firmness), chemical (total soluble solids, titratable acid, pH, vitamin C, total phenol content, antioxidant activity, total anthocyanin), respiratory rate, sensory tests, physiological and pathological disorders were determined. It was determined that an increase in weight loss and pH value, a decrease in fruit flesh firmness, and titratable acid content were significant in all nectarine varieties during storage and shelf life. As storage progressed, changes in fruit skin and flesh color, total soluble solids, and total phenol content became limited and unstable. The study results showed that all nectarine varieties could be successfully stored for 3 days of shelf life in addition to 45 days of storage.
