MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF V. anguillarum, DETERMINATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE PROFILES AND INVESTIGATION OF SOME VIRULENCE FACTORS
Project no. 23352 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021
Summary

It has been determined that Vibrio anguillarum, a significant fish pathogen in aquaculture, is the cause of outbreaks of vibriosis. It causes serious epidemics affecting crustaceans, mollusks and farm fish with economic value worldwide. For the purpose of this thesis, sampling was done at various times between 2019 and 2023 in order to isolate V. anguillarum from a fish farm in Aydın. 32 isolates were identified as Vibrio spp. by 16S rRNA sequencing analysis, morphological, biochemical, and serological assays. Then, using primers specific to V. anguillarum (RpoS, amiB), 20 isolates proved to be V. anguillarum. Some virulence factors such as hemolytic activity, antibiotic resistance, biofilm and siderophore production of isolates were investigated at two different temperatures, 15oC and 27oC. Additionally, the impact of rising iron concentrations on the development of biofilms was looked into. Our results demonstrated that major virulence factors in V. anguillarum strains are expressed in a temperature- and iron-dependent way. Our research also sheds insight into the control of virulence factors in the creation of novel immunoprophylactic and chemotherapeutic therapies for vibriosis infections.
