Effects of biochar applications on cadmium movement in soil and plant and some plant stress parameters
Project no. 995 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Within the scope of this project, the production of ink removal sludge biochar which was previously tested for remediation efficiency in terms of adsorption properties and production conditions was realized; the effect of this biochar on varying levels of available cadmium concentrations in two different alluvial soils containing sandy loam and clay loam was investigated. Soils to be examined for this effect were first artificially contaminated (0, 20, 40, 80 mg/kg Cd) and allowed to incubate under greenhouse conditions for 6 months to contain 60% moisture of the field capacity. Then, biochar applications were realized at different doses (0, 1, 3%). After 1 month incubation, crop production was carried out to measure plant stress parameters. It was determined that biochar applications showed different efficacy according to changing pollution levels and textural conditions. High biochar doses used especially at high pollution levels resulted in immobilization of 20% and 9% levels in sand and clay textured soils respectively. Plant stress parameters were statistically significant to confirm this adsorption effect.
