INVESTIGATION BY PYROSECANS AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL METHODS OF BRAF GENE MUTATION IN RENAL TUBULOPAPILLARY TUMORS
Project no. 82 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
The BRAF V600E mutation has been reported in many malign tumors. Researchs on this mutation in renal tumors are very rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the BRAF V600E mutation by PCR and immunohistochemical (IHC) methods in renal tumors with tubulopapillary morphology and to compare the clinicopathological features of BRAF mutated and wild type tumors. A series of 63 renal tumors were analyzed. Of the 63 cases, 5 were metanephric adenomas (MA) and 3 metanephric stromal tumors (MST). 4 MA and one MST were showed BRAF V600E mutation by PCR and İHC. There were no renal tumor with tubulopapillary morphology that has BRAF mutation by PCR and İHC other than metanephric adenoma and metanephric stromal tumors. The spesificity was %100, sensitivity was %62,5 in our study. There was no association with clinicopathological features in BRAF mutant and wild type tumors. In summary; it is difficult to distinguish tubulopapillary renal tumors using only histopathological features. The presence of BRAF mutant protein may help in distinguishing benign metanephric tumors from other malignant renal tumors with tubulopapillary morphology especially in a tru-cut biopsy with limited tissue samples.
