Investigation of Diatom Structure in Terms of Total Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Capacity

Project no. 1366 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

In this study, changes in total phenol content and antioxidant capacity of a diatomic species, Phaeodactylum tricornutum, under different cultivation conditions such as temperature, light intensity and aeration rate were investigated. The microalgal extracts were obtained by applying Soxhlet exraction followed by the conventional ehanol/water extraction in series to the dried biomass. Regarding the variations in the cultivation conditions, the maximum total phenol content of P. tricornutum was found to be 3.53 mg GAE g-1 dry biomass and the total antioxidant capacity of P. tricornutum was determined as 16.27 µmol TEAC g-1 dry biomass.
