TAXONOMIC, BIOLOGIC AND ECOLOGIC FEATURES OF Crepis purpurea (WILLD.) M.BIEB. (ASTERACEAE), WHICH IS DISTRIBUTED IN ONLY TURKEY AND CRIMEA

Project no. 20983 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

In this work, detailed morphological and molecular studies were carried out in order to understand whether the Crepis purpurea populations distributed in Turkey and Crimea belong to the same taxon and to clarify their taxonomic status.

A total of 13 C. purpurea populations which 11 from Crimea and 2 from Turkey were investigated.

There is no difference between the studied groups in terms of vegetative structures, anatomical and morphological structures of reproductive organs, and qualitative characteristics in ornamentation of pollen and seeds. However, a small difference was observed in the papilla shape of the involucrum epidermal cells of the Turkish group. A total of 34 macro and micromorphological and anatomical features were investigated.

When the surfaces of seeds from different groups were compared with SEM method, it was seen that they have the same structure.

To determine the phylogenetic relationships between the investigated groups, their DNA was isolated and the ITS sequences of ribosomal DNA and trnL-F sequences of chloroplast DNA were compared.. As a result of phylogenetic, ribotype and haplotype analyzes, no predicted distinction according to geographical or morphological principles was found.

According to the life cycle analysis, the total life of C. purpurea is 5-6 years on average and it is a tap-root polycarpic with few particles compared to the biomorph type. We can note generally satisfactory state of the populations structure.

Other than the low competitiveness (senophobe) of C. purpurea in the development of their populations, the main natural limiting factors include mobile ecotopes and high-density vegetation. Afforestation of slopes, tillage and grazing pressure are affect as anthropogenic limiting factors.

To sum up, a result of morphological, anatomical and molecular studies, pollen and seeds ornamentations analysis are observed a high level similarity in all studied groups. This confirms the data on the existence of a common species (C. purpurea) in Crimea and Turkey.
