EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SEEDING RATE AND ROW SPACINGS ON YIELD AND SILAGE QUALITY PARAMETERS OF BUCKWHEAT (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) IN THE COASTAL REGION OF MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE ZONE

Project no. 1287 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) contains high amounts of proteins, dietary fiber, vitamins, mineral matters, fundamental polyunsaturated fatty acids, and antioxidants such as rutin and quercetin. Buckwheat is an important food raw material due to its high nutritional quality. It has also a significant potential for the functional food industry. Furthermore, it is also grown as a fodder crop, cover crop, green manure and fertility restoring crop, honey crop and medicinal plant. This research was conducted to determine the effect of different seed rate (6-8-10 kg da-1) and row spacings (20-40-60 cm) on yield and some silage quality components of Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.) used different areas as human and animal feed etc. in 2016 and 2017 under İzmir Ödemiş ecological conditions. The experiments were designed according to randomized complete block experimental design with three replications. Plant height, stem diameter, herbage yield, dry matter rate, dry matter yield, grain yield, thousand kernel weight, hectoliter weight, silage dry matter rate, silage pH, silage flieg score parameters were determined. As a result of this study, there were statistically significant differences between herbage yield, dry matter rate and dry matter yield parameters. However, there were no statistically differences between plant height, stem diameter, grain yield, thousand kernel weight, hectoliter weight, silage dry matter rate, silage pH and silage flieg score parameters. Keywords: Buckwheat, seeding rate, row spacing, yield, silage
