Summary

In today's practice, restoration of missing teeth with implants has become a routine treatment procedure. The primary stability is a crucial indicator of the success of this treatment, and ensuring the highest possible primary stability is a prerequisite for a long-lasting implant treatment for our patients. However, achieving primary stability can be quite challenging in the maxillary posterior region with lower quality bone density, where three-dimensional bone loss occurs due to sinus pneumatization.Recently introduced osseodensification technique offers potential benefits in increasing primary stability. This technique is applied with specially designed drills to prevent damage to the bone tissue. These drills are operated in a counterclockwise direction, directing the autogenous bone lifted during implant site preparation towards the walls and base of the osteotomy site, condensing it, and increasing bone mineral density and primary stability through plastic deformation provided in the bone tissue. Studies examining the effect of osseodensification technique on primary stability are limited in the literature, and there are no prospective studies comparing this technique with a control group in closed sinus surgery.

Based on this lack of data in the literature, our study will compare the treatment outcomes of the osseodensification technique, which has very recent clinical applications in closed sinus surgery, with the osteotomy technique. For this purpose, we will evaluate primary stability, implant survival, and marginal bone loss to assess the success of osseodensification drills in implant surgery. Additionally, the perspective of patients on osseodensification drills will be presented, and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) questionnaire will be used to analyze patient-related treatment outcomes. The results will be compared with the osteotomy technique to evaluate the success of the two different techniques.
