Biomass Applications for Good Agricultural Practices
Project no. 22980 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary

In this study, it was aimed to increase the germination, emergence and early plant development performance of the pepper seed, which is difficult to germinate, by using biochar in priming application. For this purpose, in the first part of the thesis, biochar was obtained from different types of biomass (agricultural, animal and food industry waste) by pyrolysis method. Pyrolysis studies were carried out in nitrogen atmosphere in the temperature range of 300-500° C. Analyses were made for agricultural use of the obtained biochars. These analyses were pH, EC, water holding capacity, cation exchange capacity, plant nutrient element content in water. With the change of biomass and pyrolysis temperature, pH, EC values, biochar inorganic elements, plant nutrient elements in water from biochar changed.

In the second part of the thesis, pre-germination application was made to the seed with biochar. Germination, emergence and early seedling development characteristics of pre-germinated seeds were examined. For germination tests, BBA-500-2.5 dose application gave the shortest germination time of 1.15 days, while TG-500-5 dose application gave the longest germination time of 1.65 days. When the emergence test results were examined, CK-500-5 and TG-400-5 applications gave the shortest emergence times of 1.70 and 1.73 days, respectively. The longest emergence time of 1.99 days was achieved with BBA-500-7.5 dose application. When the early seedling development characteristics were examined, all results except stem length (root age, root dry weight, root oven dry matter ratio, stem age, stem dry weight, stem oven dry matter ratio, root length, stem length, root stem ratio) gave better results in seeds primed with biochar compared to the control groups. As a result of the experiments, using biochar as a priming agent shortened seed germination emergence times and improved seedling quality characteristics. It was concluded that the effect of biochar on pre-germination may be related to the plant nutrients in its structure and organic compounds that support plant growth.
