INCREASING THE ANTICORROSIVE PROPERTY OF THE ZINC PLATING PROCESS WITH MODIFIED ZEOLITE
Project no. 23588 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022
Summary

The plating is done to protect the metal and increase the corrosion resistance of the material. This project is aimed to increase the corrosion resistance of the process, to ucereducee cost of the process and to make more eco-friendly by adding the modified natural zeolite to the alkaline zinc plating process. It is aimed to increase the red rust formation time by using modified zeolites.

Zeolite modifications were carried out in laboratory condition nd prepared by using different chemicals, zeolite sizes and zeolite amounts. Zinc acetate, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, molybdic acid, lanthanum (III) nitrate solutions were used for the modification of zeolite. Zeolite samples modified with these parameters were added to the alkaline zinc plating bath and were subjected to corrosion tests in İleten Mühendislik Kaplama Ind.&Trade Inc. In addition to corrosion tests, characterizations of modified zeolite samples were done by FTIR and SEM analysis. According to the results obtained, the most effective and applicable modification method with the best anticorrosive effect was determined.

The best results were obtained on the plate with molybdic acid modification of 10 µm 7 grams of zeolite, an experiment 6 from Study I. Red rust formation on this plate occurred 384 hours later than the plate which was plated without the addition of modified zeolite.
