Dating of Pottery Samples From Yeşilova Höyük Archaeological Site Using Luminescence Technique
Project no. 226 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Luminescence dating is a radiometric dating method which could be applied to inorganic materials such as minerals existing abundantly in earth crust as well as zircon, Flintstone and volcanic glasses. In this project, ceramic samples have been excavated from Yeşilova Höyük located in Bornova district. To determine the equivalent dose obtained from samples collected from the site, course grain quartz minerals having the size of 140-250 micrometer were used. Due to the short of interested material single aliquot regeneration (SAR) procedure were applied. Annual radiation dose were determined using TLD200 (CaF2:Dy) dosimeters for gamma+cosmic radiation contribution and thin Al2O3:C dosimeters for beta radiation contribution. From the obtained results, the equivalent dose were found to be 23,9±3,8 Gy. Annual dose were 3,33±0,25 mGy/y, and therefore the date of the archeological samples were determined as 7249±1245 years Keywords: Quartz, Luminescence Dating, Equivalent Dose, Annual Dose
