INVESTIGATIONS ON THE INFESTATION RATE AND POPULATION FLUCTUATION OF AULACOPHORA FOVEICOLLIS (LUCAS) (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE) IN MELON PLANT AREAS IN KINIK (İZMİR) DISTRICT
Project no. 1292 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In this study, the infestation rate and population fluctuation of Aulacophora foveicollis (Lucas) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in melon plant areas in Kınık district of İzmir province were investigated between the years of 2017-2018. The studies on infestation rate were carried out in Sucahlı, Poyracık and Yayakent neighborhoods of Kınık district. For the study, the larvae and adult pests were counted on each 50 plants during the seedling, flowering, fruit setting and harvest periods of melon plant. No oviposition and pupae periods were found out during the countings. As the result of countings it was found out that four neighborhoods, accordingly Kınık district, were infested with A. foveicollis. The studies on population change were carried out in randomly chosen in each 4 fields located in Sucahlı and Poyracık neighborhoods, during the countings once a week. The population change studies lasted from the seedling period until the harvesting period. As a result of studies carried out on 25 plants in each field, it was observed that from the end of April-the beginning of May, the population increased rapidly, this situation took until flowering and fruit setting periods and remained constant for a time after this period. It was observed that in harvesting period the population of A. foveicollis increased in July-August but decreased again from the second half of August. When the population change of the insect was compared with the climate data of the region, it was determined that the population increases depending on the increasing of temperature.
