Summary
Geography explores the earth and relations and interactions between human societies and their environment. Evaluating the relations between the features of the earth surface and the human activities constitutes the sense of geography. One of the tools for such evaluation are the maps. Today, computers has caused a revolution for mapping and associating the spatial data which are increasing and assorted day by day. By using computers in geography for spatial planning purposes, thechniques related to Geographical Technologies including Geographical Information Systems and remotte sensing have become to develope. Establishing a GIS Lab in our department, in order to introduced this method to geography students and make them carry out applied studies was planned some years ago. But recent developments in geography and spatial sciences enforced us to establish a remote sensing laboratory. Also the department has involved several international and national projects and the projects needs more computational power. For this aim, we offered a project which is entitled “Establishment of Ege University Department of Geography Remote Sensing Laboratory” to University’s Research Project Found.
