Project no. 857 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2018
Summary
There has been great interest since the early stages of existence and the beginning of thinking on the self and personality of the individual. Scholars working in different fields have made many assumptions about one’s self. Various definitions have been made on the concept of self from the past to the present and the concept has been differentiated through time. One of the new definitions of self is the extended-self. There are no professional studies on the extended self, which includes all the material and spiritual assets of the individual as well as the abstract self. The aim of the study is to understand the extent to which academics, a profession with high psychological ownership, are included in individuals’ extended self-definitions and how individuals define themselves through their professions. The data obtained through in-depth interviews with 30 academicians working in the field of social sciences were analyzed and it was aimed to understand academics in the context of extended-self.
