Project no. 230 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

Aim: The aim of the current study is to evaluate and compare the surgical discomfort, postoperative pain and clinical results of crestal sinus lifting (CSL) technique in conjunction with short implants either performed with a magnetic mallet or a hand mallet. Materials and Methods: A total of 14 patient (9 male, 5 female, age mean std: 45 12) with bilateral single tooth gap in maxillary posterior area with residual bone height <6mm below maxillary sinuses were included in the study. Both sites received one short implant after CSL either performed with a magnetic mallet (Test group) or a hand mallet (Control Group). Surgical discomfort, postoperative pain during the first week, vitality of neighboring teeth, surgical time, number of mallet hits and sinus lifting amounts were evaluated. Results: Surgical discomfort was significantly lower in Test group (p<0.05). Similarly, postoperative pain during the 2,4 and 5th days were significantly lower in Test group (p<0.05) Number of hits used to elevate the sinus was significantly lower in magnetic mallet group (p<0.05), while the complication rates and other clinical parameters did not differ both within and between groups. Conclusion: CSL performed with magnetic mallet seems to create less discomfort and less postoperative pain. Even though both techniques are safe for CSL, magnetic mallet seems to have the potential to replace the hand mallet. Key words: Creastal approach sinus lift, short implants, magnetic mallet, pain
