INTEGRATION OF COCOMO COST MODEL WITH LIFE CYCLE COSTING IN AN AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY MANUFACTURER COMPANY BY OUTSOURCING

Project no. 1298 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Calculating and controlling costs due to increased competition between enterprises, customer expectations and shortened lives of products have become more important especially for enterprises producing technological products. Technology manufacturer companies produce software and/or hardware, profitability, sales prices and so on. In order to calculate them, they have to make separate or combined cost calculations. The aim of this project is to make the estimation and analysis of the cost of life of both the software produced by the firms (embedded and discrete system) and the equipment they produce/outsource. The company will produce agricultural irrigation automation in Izmir. Using soil-based monitoring techniques (soil moisture sensors) in agricultural land, the company manufactures web-based software for controlling the hardware and system in which solar powered irrigation automation works. The aim of the study is to estimate the cost of the embedded system software used in the hardware, to estimate the cost of the hardware produced by using outsourcing, to estimate the cost of the product life cycle from the research and development stage to the disposal stage of the product by including the estimated costs of the software in the product life process. In order to calculate the cost of the software in the embedded system in the application, Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO), which is frequently used in the literature and in practice, is used and the product life cycle is included in the research and development phase in costing. On the other hand, in the production of hardware part, outsourcing was also added to the research and development and production phase of the system. As a result of the study, an integrated Product Life Cycle Costing (PLCC) model is proposed.
