Development of a New Sensitive Colorimetric pH Scale and Indicator for Biomedical Applications Using Anthocyanin-Rich Natural Foods
Project no. 32062 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2024
Summary

The aim of this study is to develop a new colorimetric sensitive pH scale and indicator for biomedical applications using extracts obtained from anthocyanin-rich natural foods. In this study, extracts were obtained from fruits and vegetables rich in anthocyanins (e.g., eggplant, hibiscus, beet, red cabbage, red onion, red plum, strawberry etc) The color changes of these extracts at different pH values (ranging from 1 to 14) were investigated. Extracts were obtained from anthocyanin-rich natural foods using solvent extraction methods. The pH sensitivities of the extracts were determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The color changes of the extracts at different pH values were evaluated through digital image analysis. The pH stability and color stability of the extracts were tested under different storage conditions. The potential use of the developed pH scale in biomedical applications was tested in vitro. The results of the study indicated that extracts obtained from anthocyanin-rich natural foods exhibited significant and sensitive color changes over a wide pH range. These extracts have been identified as having potential as environmentally friendly and biocompatible pH indicators for biomedical applications. Specifically, the developed pH scale and indicator were shown to be feasible for use in medical diagnostics and biosensors.
