Project no. 358 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018

Summary

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the potential role of stress in oral lichen planus (OLP) which it’s some sub-types may be associated with carcinogenesis using STAI-form. Material and Methods: The 55 patients with OLP (test group) and 40 healthy individuals (control groups) were included into the study. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) form was marked by test group and control group. Under the control of investigators, STAI form was filled by participants who were rested in quiet and noiseless room. Obtained results were statistically evaluated. P = 0.050 was adopted as the significance level. Results: The statistical tests revealed that average of age for test group was higher than control group (p<0.0001). There was no statistically significant difference between test group and control group in terms of gender distribution of study groups (p=0.87). STAI values in test group were significantly higher compared to the control group (p=0.027) When differences in STAI values between female and male populations were statistically evaluated, STAI values in female group were higher than male group (p=0.002). Conclusion: The results of our study suggest that anxiety and depression may play a role in the pathogenesis of OLP.
