Breath of Anatolia: The Ecology Politics of Works by Mevlana, Yunus Emre, and Hadji Bektash

Project no. 23191 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021

Summary

The scope of the project is formed by the works of Mevlânâ, Yunus Emre, and Hacı Bektâş Veli. Since all three names constitute important building blocks of the Anatolian tradition, they continue their influence in the studies of disciplines such as literature, art, sociology, philosophy, Islamic sciences, anthropology, and ecology. In this study, the works of the three names mentioned will be examined using post-humanism and critical animal studies, which are sub-branches of the eco-critical literary analysis method. In this respect, critical narrative analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, will be used. In the field of literary sociology, a comprehensive project has not been carried out in Turkish literature with this aspect yet. In this respect, examining these names, which constitute three of the most important reference points of the literary tradition of the Anatolian geography, through the lens of a new field, will also be a reference for further studies in the literature.

It is envisaged that the output of the project will turn into a resource book for both undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, it is aimed to make an important contribution to the academic activities held throughout the country within the scope of the Yunus Emre Year. It is also important in terms of international literature to reveal that the views of these three names, which can be spread over a wide base in terms of being a source for interdisciplinary studies, are kept up-to-date in contemporary research and that they have a counterpart in relatively new theories such as eco-criticism. Considering that especially the 18th and 19th century Romantic and Transcendental works in the Western literature are re-examined in an eco-critical context, the texts that emerged in the Anatolian traditions in the older centuries compared to the West are analyzed in an eco-critical context with a project beyond single articles. It will also be important for the global eco-criticism literature.

Keywords: eco-criticism, Mevlânâ, Yunus Emre, Hacı Bektâş Veli, post-humanism, critical animal studies
