Effect of Mass Transfer on Evolution in Magnetic Cataclysmic Variable Stars

Summary

Cataclysmic variable stars are the most promising astrophysical source for the study of matter transfer between the components and evolutionary processes in binary stars. Observational studies show that the mass transfer rates obtained from magnetic cataclysmic variable polar systems are lower than in non-magnetic systems. This observational result leads us to question the effect of long-term mass transfer between components in the existence of a white dwarf with high magnetic field strength on the evolution of interacting systems in binary star evolution. In this proposed project, in order to examine this phenomenon and test it with a different approach, we will theoretically calculate the mass accretion rate of the system using both the bolometric luminosity of the polars obtained from X-ray observations and the angular momentum loss through magnetic braking and gravitational radiation mechanisms, and compare it with the values obtained from binary star population models. The results will also contribute to the understanding of the evolutionary processes in different binary star systems with a high magnetic strength and a compact component.
