MACROALGAE DISTRIBUTION IN İZMİR BAY AND DETERMINATION OF ARSENIC ACCUMULATION IN MACROALGAE
Project no. 1175 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
Heavy metals are environmental pollutants and they could be accumulated through the food chain, damaging our health. In this study, arsenic classified in heavy metals was investigated in macro algae, which has a very important place in marine life. For this purpose, 15 algae species distributed in İzmir Bay that can be consumed as human food are determined as research material. Seasonal arsenic accumulations of the algae species determined from taxa were investigated. It was determined that arsenic showed different accumulation in different algal groups (Phaeophyceae> Rhodophyceae ? Chlorophyceae). In addition, in order to determine arsenic accumulation of these species in the laboratory, different concentrations and arsenic containing media were tested.
