Summary

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of yoga exercises on children hospitalized with the diagnosis of leukemia in the Pediatric Hematology Clinic of a university, and their parents and nurses as caregivers, based on the parameters of vital signs, anxiety, stress and depression levels. Material and Methods: The study is an experimental type study. Six children between the ages of 2-and 18, six caring parents of the children, and nine nurses working in the Pediatric Hematology Clinic were included in the study. In order to generate the vital signs data in the study, the necessary measurements were made within 15 minutes before the sessions started and within the first 15 minutes after their completion. Depression, stress, and anxiety levels of children and caregiver parents were determined 12-24 hours before starting yoga exercises. Children were evaluated on the same parameters 12-24 hours after the end of all sessions. The data of the nurse participants were collected using the qualitative research method. Results: It was determined that there was a statistically significant decrease in the anxiety (p< .026), depression (p< .026) and stress (p< .026) levels and the mean total scale scores (p< .027) of the children with leukemia who participated in the study after the yoga sessions. With this; No statistically significant decrease was detected after the parents' yoga sessions, except for the anxiety sub-dimension. The data of the nurse participants were collected using a qualitative method; physical, emotional, and cognitive sub-dimensions were studied. Conclusion: Yoga exercises are one of the supportive approaches that can be applied in clinical settings with children with leukemia, their caring parents, and nurses.
