Designing a mobile application on programming teaching in preschool education
Project no. 854 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
In the 21st century, the qualities that individuals must possess have also changed with the transition from industrial society to information society. In today's society, it is emphasized in many studies that the individual must possess the qualities of producing knowledge as well as being able to use knowledge. Many innovations and adjustments are needed in education to meet the needs of the Z generation, which is expected to carry over the stated acquisitions. This generation, born into technological development, has to earn technology literacy much earlier than its predecessors X and Y generations. For this reason, "programming teaching", which is known to develop problem-solving skills starting from early childhood, should be given importance. In this study, iOS based educational mobile software is developed which enables programming with visual code blocks. The software is programmed using the Objective-C programming language in the XCode environment. The aim is to provide pre-school children with problem-solving skills with programming instructional activities. Developmental research method was used in the research. The method is based on the ADDIE model which is also used in educational software design. During the evaluation phase of the educational software development process, feedback was obtained with different data collection tools from field experts and students. Usability tests were applied to the students while opinions were received from the field experts on the educational software. “An educational software evaluation form” developed by Ateş (2010) was used for the acquisition of expert opinions in the research. The data collection tools to be applied to the students in the usability analyzes were prepared by the researchers. The necessary improvements were made in the software within the scope of the collected information and suggestions.
