The Effect Of Fructose On Pancreatıc Cancer, Pancreatıc Inflammatıon: In Vıtro Comperatıve Study

Project no. 145 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017

Summary

Cancer cells have been reported to be able to use both glucose and fructose for proliferation. Fructose is not only an energy source, it is also often used in the pentose phosphate pathway and provides proliferative cells with the capacity to synthesize large amounts of DNA and RNA. In this study, it has been shown that fructose and glucose have different effects on gene expression levels in pancreatic tumor cells. We examined the expression variation of KRAS, ERK1, NFKB1 in PANC1 cells and COX2, ERK1, KRAS, NFKB1, TKTL2 genes in HPDE6 cells which incubated in fructose, glucose and fructose-glucose combinations. Expression of these genes is increased in PANC1 and HPDE6 cells more in the fructose-added medium group than in the glucose-added medium. Fructose-glucose combination doesn’t have synergistic effect in all genes. It shows that fructose behaves differently from glucose not only in nucleic acid synthesis, but also in the activation of intracellular signaling pathways and gene expression levels.
