Project no. 233 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
Aim: Today, digital applications and software in education are becoming widespread and outcome-based curriculums and student-centered active programs are gaining more importance. Educational software offers fast and efficient solutions in evaluating the compatibility of the current curriculum with the program outcomes and core education programs. The aim of this study is to revise the Ege University Faculty of Dentistry Pre-Graduation Education Curriculum according to DUÇEP, to construct a learning outcome-oriented education curriculum, and to evaluate the developments and improvements in this adaptation process with a standard and auditable software system. Material and Methods: The study was carried out by the members of the Faculty of Dentistry Education Commission and was implemented in four stages. In the first stage, DUÇEP compatibility of our education curriculum was ensured, while in the second stage, the DUÇEP compatible curriculum was transferred to KEYPS software. After faculty members were trained on the use of the software, the content tables for all the subjects included in the training program were prepared in the KEYPS software. In the third stage of the study, the program qualifications that were not met or had a low level of fulfillment on the software were determined by the work of the Education Commission members, and necessary arrangements were made in the education plan. At the last stage, an online survey of 15 questions was applied to the faculty members, and their views on the curriculum development process implemented through the electronic KEYPS software and the effects of the electronic arrangement of our curriculum on our education quality were learned. Results: In the process of developing and monitoring our education curriculum with an electronic software, it has been experienced that our DUÇEP compliance and the level of meeting the program qualifications can be achieved quickly and efficiently. The template content tables available on the software helped the instructors speed up their learning objective writing processes. In this process, the education plan was revised, and new and updated courses were added to increase the level of meeting the program qualifications determined to be insufficient. In the online survey, most of the faculty members reported that the use of computer-based educational software (68.35%, n=52) in ensuring standardization and the software is important in monitoring the DUÇEP compliance of our curriculum (78.8%, n=60). It was also observed that most of the participants stated that the weaknesses and strengths of our curriculum can be determined quickly and effectively with computer-based educational software and that it is important to move our education curriculum to the electronic environment in increasing the quality of education. Conclusion: Educational software offers fast and efficient solutions in evaluating the compatibility of the current curriculum with the program outputs and core education programs. In our faculty, transferring the education curriculum to the electronic environment, updating the education content easily, saved time and provided standardization.
