Phytochemical studies on Astragalus argaeus Boiss. & Balansa species
Project no. 613 · Status: Kapanmış · 2015
Summary
Astragalus is one of the biggest genus in the world in terms of species. It represents approximately 2900 taxa (Podlech and Zarre 2013). In Turkish flora Astragalus genus contains 469 taxa in 62 section with being the richest species of our country (Chamberlain and Matthews, 1970); Davis et al.,1965). According to Turkish plants list 217 of 469 Astragalus taxa are endemic and this ratio is 46.2% for our country (Aytaç et al., 2012). Some of Astragalus species have been used for their antihepatic, antioxidant, immunostimulatory and antiviral effects in ethnobotany. These pharmacological activities come from the three group of chemicals as polytsaccharides, saponines and phenolics (Rios and Waterman, 1997). Roots of Astragalus have been used in Chine medicine as immunomodulatory, diuretics, vasodilatory, aniperspirant and tonic from ancient times. Besides these they were written in records used in nephritis, diabetes, respiratory infections and anticancerogen ajan in uterus. In this study, roots and herbal parts of Astragalus argaeus Boiss. & Balansa grown in 3000 m. at Erciyes mountain were studied phytochemically. Extractions were made by buthanol, ethyl acetate and hexane. Preperative TLC were applied in extract of ethyl acetate. Saponine rich fractions, cycloartane type glycosides, were taken from buthanol extracts by open column chromatography with macropore resin as adsorbant. Secondary metobolites were studied mainly saponins and Astragaloside VII and Astragaloside IV were determined in buthanol extract.
