ENCAPSULATION OF THERAPEUTIC BIOMOLECULES TO DIFFERENT HYDROGELS AND RESEARCHING OF MEDICAL USE
Project no. 648 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
Hydrogels are hydrophilic polymers that are insoluble in water or biological fluids by forming chemical or physical bonds. These structures, prepared from natural or synthetic monomers, have been the favorite therapeutic biomaterials of recent years thanks to their ability to be biocompatible, biodegradable, to be formed at the desired size and particle diameter, swelling, and biomolecules being trapped controlled over time. They are also called intelligent polymers when they are designed to respond to external stimuli from the environment, such as temperature, pH, chemicals, light, electric field, and their ability to release with stimuli has also increased their utility in a variety of biomolecule, drug, and enzyme studies. In this study, different polysaccharide base, biocompatible (acrylamide, chitosan, chia seed) hydrogels were prepared and their applicability for oral use of insulin was tested. The acrylamide-based hydrogel was modified with the CMC to make it biocompatible. A second acrylamide-based hydrogel was also synthesized using chitosan as a cross-linker. Glutaraldehyde was used as a cross-linker in commonly used oral chitosan therapeutic hydrogel. The preparation of therapeutic hydrogels, which have not been tried before with Chia seeds, is also a work done within the scope of the thesis. The glucose-lowering activity of the prepared hydrogels was tested in vitro.
