Comparison of shear bond strength of ceramic brackets to zirconia surfaces using different surface treatment methods
Project no. 22805 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary

The aim of this study; to evaluate the effect of four different surface treatments on shear bond strenght (SBS) between ceramic orthodontic brackets and zirconia blocks. In this study; sandblasting with 50 μm Al2O3 particles, sandblasting with 30 μm silica coated Al2O3 particles, surface roughening with course grained Sof-Lex discs andsurface roughening with Er:YAG laser were performed afterwards polycrystalline ceramic brackets were bonded on the zirconia blocks. All speciments underwent thermocycling, SBS testing. Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI) was performed by taking stereomicroscope images and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images was taken. Mean SBS values showed a significant difference between groups (p < 0.05).

All surface roughening groups showed sufficient adhesion for orthodontic treatments. Er:YAG laser, Al2O3 and CoJet groups showed similar bond strenght. Er:YAG laser group showed higher bond strenght than Sof-Lex group. Sof-Lex group can be used to roughen zirconia surfaces without requiring the use of extra equipment. According to ARI scoring; reliable seperation was obtained for zirconia surfaces in the roughening groups. The use of primers containing 10-MDP and 3-MPS silane was recommended for bonding to 3Y-TZP monolithic zirconia surfaces.

Keywords: Zirconia surfaces; ceramic brackets; Er:YAG lasers
