USE OF GRANULATED GLASS AND CEMENT FOR STABILIZATION OF FINE GRAINED SOIL
Project no. 750 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
It is known that the engineering properties of shallow clay layers are generally poor. Prior to the construction of the superstructure, the development of the engineering features of these areas is of paramount importance. Stabilization using cement is one of the most preferred methods for eliminating the adverse effects that may occur in the environment from nowadays to the extent possible. However, in addition to the many advantages provided by cement stabilization, it is known that a greater amount of CO2 is released during production. For this reason, methods of improving the engineering properties of the soil without using binders such as cement, lime is preferred. In this scope, this study investigates changes in the strength of kaolin clay stabilized with recycled ground glass and cement / silica fume blends. and these changes are evaluated in terms of ground glass and cement / silica fume contents and curing period as well. The results revealed that a granular character is achieved by the addition of granulated glass in kaolin type clay, which enhances the effects of cement / silica fume. Moreover, by addition of granulated glass which is a waste material, it is possible to reduce the amount of cement /silica fume, for a certain target strength level, which results in environmental benefits.
