Designing-Modeling-Installation-Test-Simulation of Solar Aided Air Conditioner System and Assessment of the whole System under Advanced Exergy Analysis within Different Refrigerants

Project no. 548 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016

Summary

Utilization of energy is quite wide and it is one of the most important issues that frequently become main topic in our life. Due to world’s population growth and industrial development, energy demand will increase continuously in an accelerated manner. But this increase cause to environmental concerns. These concerns give rise to studies about increasing utilization of advanced technologies and decreasing energy demand properly. In this regard, European Union 2020 energy strategy comprise of reducing greenhouse gases level and energy consumption by 20% and increasing the share of renewables to 20%. In parallel with EU 2020 energy strategy, the scope of this project is to decrease greenhouse gases emission levels and to increase share of renewable energy by taking advantage of residential split type solar aided air conditioner. Residential utilization of refrigeration sector must provide comfort parameters (temperature, humidity, fresh air, etc.) under specified standards by using heatin and cooling systems especially residential split type air conditioner. An optimal residential split type solar aided air conditioner system will be designed, simulated, set up and tested for a whole year with hour based climate data of İzmir in order to get the best performance under cost constraints. Performance analysis as well as cost analysis of the system will be done. One of the goal of the optimal design of the system is to be able to provide a solar renewable energy share of 34.2% which is the upper limit for a 5m2 polycristaline PV panel in İzmir conditions in theory. So, this optimal prototype system has the maximum marketing potential. This prototype will be tested for a year and the computer model of the system will be improved with the measurements taken from appropriate nodes. In literature, the parameters that affect the performance and environmental impact of the system are mostly identified as size of PV Panel, and capacity of battery bank. In this project, in addition to these parameters, we identify the battery dispatch strategy and battery upper threshold as important as other parameters. This project will be the first in literature to use the battery upper threshold in solar aided air conditioner system. The whole system of solar aided air conditioner system and split type climate cycle with different refrigerants will be examined by advanced exergy analyses which is first in the literature. In this analysis, endogenous, exogenous parts, the improvement potentials (avoidable, unavoidable parts) will be presented and will be counted into cost analysis. Performing advanced exergy analyses, increasing the share of renewable energy and using R1234yf which has the least global warming potential indicates the environmentalist aspect of this project. At the end of the project, performance tests of the system that are carried out under winter and summer conditions of İzmir by benefiting from its solar radiation potential will be verified by the modeling, simulation and optimization of the system in Matlab/Simulink and/or TRNSYS in choosing PV panel size, battery dispatch strategy, battery lower and upper threshold values etc. Also, the relationship between the optimal system parameters and statistical properties of a region will be examined by doing correlation and regression analyses. If a relationship exists, this relationship will be generalized into other regions by a formula or a table in order to find a shortcut to estimate the optimal parameters of the system.
