Determination of the Relationships Between Body Condition Properties and Liver Tissue Development in The Common Sole (Solea solea Linnaeus, 1758) Distributing in the Aegean Sea

Project no. 20648 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

In order to determine the relationship between body condition properties and liver tissue development, this research was fulfilled in the common sole specimens (Solea solea, Linnaeus, 1758) caught from the Aegean Sea between March 2019 and February 2020. During 12 months, the 240 common sole specimens examined were obtained from commercial trawlers and small-scale fisheries working in the Aegean Sea and the values of total length and total weight were found to be between 19.0-34.5 cm and values between 15.9-343.2 g, respectively. The length-weight relationship for whole specimens (male and female together) was computed as W = 0.0068TL 3.07 (r = 0.87) and they showed positive allometric growth. During the sampling period, the determined index results in the specimens were as follows: HSI = 0.89 ± 0.32 (0.08 – 1.97), VSI = 4.45 ± 2.63 (0.57 – 27.35), GSI = 1.44 ± 2.13 (0.07-12.87) and Fulton-K = 0.7 ± 0.13 (0.9 -1.58). According to the histological evaluations of the liver, general deterioration of liver tissue was observed in 13.75% of the common sole examined for a year, hepatocyte degeneration accompanied by macro vesicular steatosis in 12.08%, hemorrhage in 0.8% and sinusoid deterioration in 0.8%. As a result, it has been determined that the common sole fish known as nocturnal and carnivorous prefer more food groups with high maltose value in their habitats on the Aegean coasts. Considering the sex; while female sole fish have higher HSI values than males, 25% of the population caught throughout the year has degeneration in liver tissues due to feeding.
