THE EVALUATION OF LUNG PARENCYMA WITH 3 TESLA MRI IN CASES WITH PRIMARY IMMUNE FAILURE CAN IT BE AN ALTERNATIVE TO COMPUTERIZED TOMOGRAPHY?
Project no. 22601 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2021
Summary
Purpose: Radiosensitivity is a drawback of CT (Computed Tomography) imaging in patients with immunosuppresion. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the parencymal changes with 3 Tesla MRI ( Magnetic Resonance Imaging) sequences and to correlate the findings with CT imaging in patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency(CVID). It is an attempt to put forward a method that does not contain possible alternative radiation. Material-Method: Seventeen Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) cases followed up by Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital Allergy Immunology Department were included. Mediastinal and parenchymal changes were compared by evaluating the patients with thorax CT and MRI examinations on the same day. The Bhalla scoring system was modified and used in the evaluation. Findings: CT and MRI had similar performance in detection of bronchiectasis extention severity , mucuous pluggings and consolidation. However, CT examinations were more successful in defining ground glass opacities and in diagnosis of the nodules with size of less than 1 cm. Conclusion: In conclusion, 3 Tesla Thorax MRI can detect the prevelance of parenchymal and mediastinal diseases, which are frequently observed in CVID patients similar to CT and the extent of disease can be succesfuly evaluated. Considering these findings, despite its low spatial resolution, MRI may be an alternative method in this radio-sensitive patient group requiring frequent radiologic follow up.
