Determination of the Phenolic Profile of Fumana thymifolia Boiss. var. thymifolia

Project no. 25235 · Status: Kapanmış · 2022

Summary

<p>In our preliminary studies of Fumana thymifolia Boiss var. thymifolia species belonging to the Cistaceae family, it was determined that water, methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane extracts showed activity against acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, tyrosinase, α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. In addition, it was determined that the extracts showed significant activity in the antioxidant activity studies performed on the same extracts with different methods. Phenolic compounds, which show a broad spectrum of biological activity, are a group of secondary substances commonly found in plants. Although this group of substances has a strong antioxidant capacity, they show inhibitory activity against enzymes such as α-amylase, α-glucosidase, lipase, cholinesterases and tyrosinase. In our preliminary study on the extracts, it was determined that the plant has a high content of total phenolic and total flavonoids. Therefore, the need to identify bioactive phenolic compounds that contribute positively to the biological activities observed in the extracts has emerged. Within the scope of the project, extracts prepared from Fumana thymifolia Boiss var. thymifolia species include 3-hydroxy benzoic acid, 4-hydroxy benzoic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid, 3-hydroxyflavone, chrysin, vitexin, luteolin, fisetin, quercetin, Quantitative determinations of isorhamnetin, 3-O-methylquercetin, galangin, kaempherol, rutin, morin, hesperidin, naringenin, genistein, daidzein, catechol molecules were determined in liquid chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometer (LC/Q-TOF/MS). In general, it was determined that phenolic compounds were in high concentration in the above-ground parts of the plant. In addition, vanillic acid, ferulic acid, luteolin, galangin, kaempherol, rutin and genistein molecules were found in all samples.</p>
