DETERMINATION OF EFFECTS OF GLUCOSINOLATE DEGRADATION PRODUCTS ON GROWING PARAMETERS IN BRASSICA NAPUS
Project no. 502 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
Since plants are exposed to different environmental stress factors throughout their life cycles, they have developed a wide range of defense systems in the evolutionary process. The glucosinolate myrosinase defense system specific to the Brassicacecae family is one of these specific systems. Although the degradation products produced by the interaction of glucosinolates and myrosinase enzyme have been developed mainly for insect damage, microbial damage and injury, it has been shown that they have roles against abiotic stresses such as heat, drought and salinity. Furthermore, there is an interaction between photosynthetic yield, plant growing and development and glucosinolate defence system.. Especially, previous studies have identified an strong interaction between root development and glucosinolate pathway, but the mechanism has not yet been elucidated. Further studies are needed in this respect and the related mechanism has been tried to be clarified on Brassica napus plant that has economical and agricultural importance with this study. The results of our study show that allyl and benzyl isothiocyanate treatments affects important physiological processes, especially photosynthesis and root development. Increased concentration of isothiocyanate decreased quantum yield of photosystem II, primary root length and hypocotyl length and increased root hair formation.
