Summary

The final report of the General Research project consists of three sections. The first section includes literature data on Schiff bases and metal complexes synthesized with Schiff bases. This section also includes information on Alzheimer's disease. The second section contains the experimental section. This section includes the synthesis of two new ligands using 4-ubiquinoline carboxyaldehyde and two different amines (o-phenylenediamine and 5,5-dichlorophenylenediamine), and the synthesis of two new Pt complexes containing these ligands. The structures of the Pt(II) complexes (Complex I and Complex II) chelated with these Schiff bases were determined using elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. The general structures of the complexes are shown below.

The synthesized compounds were determined to inhibit acetylcholinesterase, a key factor in Alzheimer's disease. The activity of the complexes on Aβ1-42, another Alzheimer's factor, was investigated using fluorescence measurements with Thioflavin T and AFM measurements.

The third section evaluates and discusses the results of the studies, primarily focusing on the elucidation of the structures of Schiff bases and their Pt complexes using various spectroscopic methods and the evaluation of their biological studies.
