KÜÇÜK MENDERES NEHRİ BALIK FAUNASI
Project no. 1170 · Status: Kapanmış · 2017
Summary
It is aimed to determine the current fish fauna and their distribution in the Küçük Menderes River in Western Anatolia in the present study. In recent years, there have been changes in human activities in terms of agricultural, fishing, industry and land uses in the drainage of Küçük Menderes River, where environmental pressure is very high. Depending on the industrial and environmental pollution caused by this, the water quality of the stream has changed and this has caused the change of aquatic biota. In order to determine the impact of this process on the fish fauna of the river, the sampling was conducted seasonally at 21 stations (15 lotic and 6 lentic) from the source to the downstream in 2018 and 2019. In the sampling carried out in seasonal periods, "Samus 725G" model electroshooker was used in lotic habitats and standard nets in accordance with the criteria of "TS-EN 14757 Water Quality-Taking fish samples with dense mesh nets with changing meshes" in lentic habitats. As a result of the study, 13 taxa belonging to Anguillidae, Atherinidae, Cyprinidae, Cobitidae, Gobiidae, Nemacheilidae, Mugilidae, Percidae and Poeciliidae families were determined. Luciobarbus lydianus, Petroleuciscus symrnaeus, Squalius fellowesii, Oxynoemacheilus theophilii species were mostly found in lotic habitats, Gambusia holbrooki, Carassius gibelio, Cyprinus carpio and Chelon ramada species were found to be more in lentic habitats. Alien species such as Perca fluviatilis, Carassius gibelio, Atherina boyeri and Gambusia holbrooki were found in the stream, and it was determined that they showed invasive properties in some habitats. Due to high pollution within the body of the stream, fish were found only in the rivers at the source.
