Clinical and Radiological Comparison of Two Different Expansion Techniques in Cases of Horizontal Bone Insufficiency
Project no. 29649 · Status: Kapanmış (Yayın bekleniyor) · 2023
Summary

Objective: To compare the treatment success of osseodensification and crest split techniques that allowsimultaneous implant placement in the posterior mandibular region.

Materials and Methods: This project conducted on patientswith horizontal bone deficiency in the mandibular posterior region. A total of 20 patients were randomly treated withosseodensification (Group 1) or crest split techniques (Group2). The outcome variables were implant survival, the amountof bone expansion, the need for additional bone augmentation, primary stability and the incidence of complication. Statistically significance was taken as p<0.05.

Results: Fourty-six implants were placed in this project. Primary stability and insertion torque values were higher in the osseodensification group than in the crest split group. The difference between the groups was statistically significant (p=0.039). Implant survival rates were 100% for the osseodensification group and 95.7% for the crest split group. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the need for additional bone augmentationand the amount of alveolar bone augmentation (p>0.05). Complication rates were significantly lower in the osseodensification group than in the crest split group (4.8% and 28%, respectively). This difference between the groupswas found to be statistically significant (p=0.043).

Conclusion: Osseodensification is a technique that can be used in the alveolar bone expansion. Although each techniquepresents similar outcomes for bone expansion and implant survival, osseodensification is considered to be a viablealternative in terms of enhance primary stability and lowcomplication rates.

Keywords: Dental Implant Surgery; OsseodensificationTechnique; Crest Split Technique
