DEVELOPMENT OF A CHROMATOGRAPHIC METHOD FOR THE DETECTION OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES IN IZMIR KUCUK MENDERES RIVER

Project no. 20615 · Status: Kapanmış · 2019

Summary

The water based (surface, wastewater, etc.) studies have been come into prominence for illicit substances monitoring, besides biological materials. Water based studies provide realistic, reproducible, objective determination of the abused, addictive substances and their metabolites, levels and species. In this study a chromatographic method developed for the detection of amphetamine, benzoylegononine, cocaine, morphine, 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine, 11-nor-?9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9 carboxylic acid and codeine in surface waters samples taken from İzmir Küçük Menderes River (KM). The analytes were concentrated using a solid phase extraction method and analyzed in the chromatographic system. Calibration ranges were determined between 10-500 µg/L and correlation coefficient values among 0,9954-0,9999. The mean relative standard deviation was calculated among 2,19 and 14,41 for concentrations of 25 and 100 µg/L. The LOQ were determined to be in the range of 11-22 µg/L. Surface water samples were taken from 4 different coordinates determined in April (2019), October (2019) and April (2020) from KM and analyzed by validated method. All the samples yielded below the limit of quantification. In this study, illegal substance analysis was performed for the first time in the river waters of Izmir Region. It is aimed to contribute to taking necessary legal and social measures for the fight against national illicit substances with the data obtained from the region.
