Uptake of Radiolabeled Phthalocyanine in Gram Positive and Gram negative Bacteria and Evaluate of Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy Potential as In vitro
Project no. 217 · Status: Kapanmış · 2018
Summary
Nowadays, the antibiotic-resistant microorganisms are one of the most important factors in the spread of infectious diseases around the world. Therefore, the development of alternative treatment strategies is very important in the control of infectious diseases. Among these new strategies, APDT (Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy) is a non-invasive method. In the basic principle of APDT, photosensitizers (PS) produce free radicals by irradiating them with harmless light at the appropriate wavelength and this cause microorganism’s cell cytotoxicity in this method. In this project, APDT activity of synthesized ZnPc and SubPc were tested on the strains of Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli). Our results show that ZnPc and SubPc are potential photosensitizers due to remarkable antibacterial activities in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. In addition to the uptake result of 131I-ZnPc and 131I-SubPc indicate that these radiolabeled compound might be useful in infection nuclear imaging.
