Summary

The study entitled "Dendrochronological Research on Yamanlar Mountain (Izmır)” consists of two main parts. In the first section of the study, the physical geography features of Yamanlar Mountain were examined in general terms. In the second section, dendrochronological and dendroclimatological researches were conducted on the samples which were taken from Calabrian pine (Pinus brutia) and black pine (Pinus nigra) trees of Yamanlar Mountain. As a result, 163 years Calabrian pine site chronology was created from the Karagöl site coded as KRG on the Yamanlar Mountain. In addition, one black pine and one Calabrian pine chronologies created by Doğan (2020) were used in this study, coded as KRG and KUL respectively. Those chronologies were 182 to 167 years in length, respectively. The sensitivity coefficients of those chronologies calculated between 0.22 and 0.25. Those results showed that trees in Yamanlar Mountain were sensitive to climate variability and change. Correlation coefficient analysis for two different sites were conducted to determine the effect of climatic factors such as temperature and precipitation on the annual ring growth of Calabrian pine and black pine. Worldclim 2.1 (https://www.worldclim.org/) climate data sets (monthly average maximum and minimum temperature and monthly total precipitation) were used for determining relationships between tree-ring width and climate. Thus changes in the temperature and precipitation conditions and the effect that changes on the tree growth were determined. Besides, the similarities/differences Calabrian pine and black pine trees' responses to climate variability at the elevation boundary in the KRG sites were determined.
