Effects of Different Surface Treatment Protocols On The Shear Bond Strength Of Polyetheretherketone Substructure and Composite Veneer

Project no. 22950 · Status: Kapanmış · 2021

Summary

Polyetheretherketone is increasing it’s popularity nowadays in prosthetic restorations. It is used as substructure material with its features. It is used by veneering with composite material in order to achieve aesthetic success. Complications that can be seen in this context are usually the result of insufficient bond in the areas of merger. In our study, in order to eliminate these bonding problems, it was investigated how the surface treatment protocols applied to PEEK surface affected the connection between PEEK and composite resin material. For this purpose; 5 different experimental groups were created to apply 5 different surface treatments, as well as 1 control group to explain numerically the effects of the applied surface treatments on bonding. A total of 60 samples were prepared, 10 samples for each group. PEEK samples were obtained by milling process with a height of 16mm. and diameter of 5mm. using the CAD/CAM system. Bonding agent and veneer composite types were excluded from the study and different surface treatments were applied to each group. Test groups; seperated as Group 1 is the control group that did not apply any surface treatment protocol, Group 2 is %98 Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) group, Group 3 is %30 Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) group, Group 4 air-borne particle blasting group with 50µ Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) particles, Group 5 is CoJet group with 30µ Silicone Oxide (SiO2) particles, Group 6 is %9.5 Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) group. Specimens were subjected to force in the Mechanical Tester until failure. Shear bond strength values were recorded and calculated as Mpa’s according to the maximum strength they were based on. As a result of the analyzes made; Among the surface treatments applied to the PEEK material, the group showing the highest values in the bonding with composite was %98 Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) group. There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength values of the other groups.
