INVESTIGATION OF EFFECTS OF BACTERIAL ENDOPHYTES ON Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) (POTATO BETTLE) AND DEVELOPMENT OF POTATO PLANTS
Project no. 980 · Status: Kapanmış · 2016
Summary
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the biocontrol effects of 19 endophytic bacterial (EB) strains from our laboratory stocks, and a bacterial isolate which was isolated from diseased Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Ld) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) larvae. First, second, third and fourth-instar larvae were kept for a 16-h starvation, then the larvae were kept in a Petri dish containing fresh detached leaves, sprayed with tested EB suspensions. Larvae and potato leaves treated with sterile distilled water was recorded as negative control. The larvae were incubated for 8 days to observe the mean mortality (%). Out of six EB strains showed the highest insecticidal activity on larvae were selecred for further in vivo pot tests. First and second instar larvae stages, which were the most susceptible to EB strains, were chosen for in vivo tests. EB strains were sprayed onto potato plants, and then Ld larvaes kept on the leaves. The mortality of Ld larvaes and pupaes were determined 14 days after post EB application. EB treatmnets resulted 21 to 56 mortality on the larvaes and pupaes of Ld. Tested EB strains increased the total dry biomass on the potato plants feeded with or without Ld larvaes compared ton on treated control plants.
